Professor Antonio Briguglio was born in Nizza di Sicilia (Messina) in 1957. He is full professor of civil procedure at “Tor Vergata” University of Rome. He previously taught at Würzburg and Pisa Universities. He has written several articles books, commentaries and numerous other publications concerning civil procedure, arbitration law, EC law and private international law. He is member of the “Italian association of civil procedure scholars”, the “Wiss. Vereinigung für Internationales Verfahrensrecht” and the “International Association for Procedural Law”. He is admitted to practice before the Court of Cassation and the other highest Courts. He has been a sole arbitrator and member of several national and international arbitration panels (including ICC And UNICITRAL panels), and he was member of the Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso. He provides legal assistance, in civil and commercial cases, to many important national and international companies and public entities. Among many others: Acea, Alitalia, Alstom, Bavaria N.V., British American Tobacco, Budweiser, Cirio in a.s., Comune di Venezia, Enav, Enel, Invitalia, Merloni, Merrill Lynch, Parmalat, Republic of Argentina, Siae, Sicilcassa, Telecom, Tirrena in l.c.a., Unicredit, etc. He is frequently requested to provide legal opinions before national, foreign and international Tribunals (as in ICSID Case No. Arb./07/05 about “arbitration proceedings and class action”). In 1996, he was member of “Tarzia Commission” for the preparation of a draft law/delegation for the reform on civil procedure. In 2005, he was member of the Ministerial Commission that prepared the reform on civil cassation and arbitration proceedings. He is currently member of the Ministerial Commission on ADR Reform. He is director of the “Rivista dell’arbitrato” (the Italian Arbitration Journal).
